Girl is born with 26 fingers and the child’s parents believe she is a goddess

In Bharatpur, India, a girl was born with six toes on each foot and seven fingers on each hand. In total there are 26 fingers, and the case has been attracting the attention of people and the local press.

Many say the family received a ‘divine gift’, but doctors explained that the child was born with a very rare genetic condition. Polydactyly occurs in one in every 500 to 1000 babies, according to Boston Children’s Hospital in the United States.

This anomaly almost always affects only one hand, which is why this baby’s case has attracted so much attention, as it affected both of her hands and also her feet, which makes this case even rarer.

Parents think their daughter is a goddess

The parents were not upset with what happened to their daughter, on the contrary, they are believing that she is a reincarnation of Dholagarh Devi, a Hindu goddess. In India, it is common to see images of this goddess, who is portrayed with several arms. An interesting fact is that the temple of the goddess Dholagarh Devi is located close to the place where the child was born.

In the future these ‘extra’ fingers can be removed

The child’s uncle spoke to the Indian press and said that his niece was born with 26 fingers, which is why the family believes that the girl is the reincarnation of Dholagarth Devi. The presence of these ‘extra’ fingers does not cause side effects.

However, in cases like this, doctors remove the fingers through surgery, but it is necessary to wait until the child is one year old. The point is that no one knows whether the parents will want to subject their daughter to this procedure.
